Meet Tanisha

Hometown: Port Orchard, Washington

Education: South Kitsap High School; Seattle Pacific University (BA, Sociology; minor in Psychology)

Favorite Seattle restaurant: Billy Beach Sushi in Ballard

A trip I’d like to take: I’m dying to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, Florida. I’m still disappointed I didn’t get my Hogwarts acceptance letter on my 11th birthday.

Family: I am unbelievably blessed to have the most supportive parents, and friends who are as much a part of my family as my relatives.

Favorite sports team: Am I allowed to say the Gryffindor Quidditch team?

Favorite book I read in college: In a class called “Gender in the Global Context” taught by Dr. Kevin Neuhouser, I read Half the Sky by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. It was such an eye-opening book in my understanding of the oppression that women and girls face around the world.

Favorite Movies: Lord of the Rings trilogy, Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, and Star Wars

Favorite thing about SPU: It’s hard to choose, but I love SPU’s commitment to service both in the greater Seattle area and beyond. Through places on campus such as the John Perkins Center, students are able to volunteer with other students at places like Union Gospel Mission, Mary’s Place Day Center, and Rainier Beach High School.
