Student Financial Services July 23 Retreat

Student Financial Services will be closed on Wednesday, July 23, for its annual summer office retreat. The office will re-open on Thursday, July 24. If you have any questions, please call 206-281-2061.

Office of University Communications Closed July 7–9

The Office of University Communications will be closed July 7-9 for its annual in-house organization and planning. Although the office will be closed, the UC staff will be on site and available to assist clients in the case of emergencies. If you have an urgent need, call Office Manager Julia Weir at 206-281-2051, and she will connect you with the appropriate staff member. If you are currently working with UC on a project, your communications specialist will ensure that the closure does not cause any delays. Please call your communications specialist if you have questions or concerns. Thank you for helping us prepare for a new academic year!

The summer hours for Gwinn Dining Hall are now posted online. The hours will be updated daily for the upcoming week. Please remember that dining hall hours are based on Conference Services clients and internal groups, and are subject to change. Contact conferenceservices@spu.edu if you have any questions.




Faculty/Staff Bulletin Summer Deadline

The Faculty/Staff Bulletin is published every other Monday during the summer. Deadlines for submissions are Thursdays. If you have information or event news, send it as soon as possible to Bulletin editor Tracy Norlen at fsb-editor@spu.edu. Submissions may be edited for clarity. The next Bulletin will be published Monday, July 21. The next deadline is Thursday, July 17.

Second Edition of Lee's Book

Jaeil Lee, professor of family and consumer sciences, published her second edition of Technical Sourcebook for Designers with Fairchild Books-Bloomsbury Publishing. This second edition is co-authored by Camille Steen, Technical Design Manager at Exofficio LLC.

This book is a college textbook, and devoted to preparing aspiring and professional apparel designers for the growing demand for technical design skills in the apparel industry. This comprehensive compilation presents technical design processes and industry standards that reflect current apparel production and manufacturing practices.

Many leading universities with fashion programs such as FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising), Cornell University, and others currently use the book. The book was also published in Korean by Sigma Press in Korea and is in the process of publishing in Chinese by Donghua University Press in China.

Williams, Erisman, LaBrie, and Steinke Awarded Best Paper

The paper, “Impacts of Unified Communications on Work,”  written by School of Business, Government, and Economics Dean Joseph Williams, Executive in Residence Al Erisman, Associate Professor of ISM Ryan LaBrie, and Professor of ISM Gerhard Steinke, was awarded the Best Paper prize at the 2014 Performance Management Association (PMA) Conference in Denmark, June 27-28.
