You’re required to sign up for New Student Advising so we can prepare your records and materials for advising and registration. Choose:
- Direct registration
- On-campus session
- Phone appointment
For Direct Registration, the date of your sign-up and completion of the Direct Registration Survey will determine the timeline for receiving your schedule.
- by May 1 to receive schedule by June 1
- by June 1 to receive schedule by July 1
- by July 1 to receive schedule by Aug. 1
- by Aug. 1 to receive schedule by Sept. 1
- by Sept. 1 to receive schedule by Sept. 15
On-Campus Academic Advising
On-campus sessions close once we reach capacity, so sign up as soon as possible. You can change your sign-up as long as space is available.
Sign up for an individual session...
- by May 4 to attend session on May 18*
- by June 8 to attend session on June 22 (This session is full)
- by July 5 to attend session on July 19
- by July 5 to attend session on July 20
- by July 20 to attend session on Aug. 3
- by Aug. 10 to attend session on Aug. 24
*Please note that the May 18 session is held in association with Admitted Transfer Day. Only transfer students are eligible to attend this session and students will need to sign up for both NSA and Admitted Transfer Day. Transfer students are those students who have completed college-level credits after having received their high school diploma.
Phone appointments are scheduled on an as-available basis upon completion of all tutorial assignments. Please contact the NSA office to schedule your appointment after signing up in Banner and submitting the $200 advance payment. Priority is given to students living three or more hours away from campus. Important Note: Phone Appointments are scheduled beginning May 21 for appointment dates starting June 11.
Steps to Sign Up
Log into Banner, go to the Student Menu > New Student Menu > New Student Advising Sign Up.
If you haven’t already, submit $200 advance payment to the Admissions Office.
This establishes your student account. Funds are applied to your first quarter’s tuition.
How to do it: Log into Banner, go to the Student Menu > New Student Menu > Advance Tuition Payment.
Submit updated official transcripts for ALL institutions/testing programs from which you’ve received college credit. Have all materials sent to SPU Undergraduate Admissions, 3307 Third Ave. W., Suite 115, Seattle, WA 98119. If you've completed Running Start of College in the High School credits, you'll need to request a transcript directly from the college providing credit.
Complete the required tutorial assignments and placement tests.
Familiarize yourself with SPU’s degree requirements and student account processes before you arrive. The tutorial also contains placement tests required for class registration.
How to do it: Log into Canvas and follow tutorial instructions. As a newly admitted student, you’ve been enrolled in the “Earning Your Undergraduate Degree” course in Canvas. Access that course for instructions.
Note: If you’re interested in a major that requires
- CHM 1211: General Chemistry I
- MAT 1234: Calculus I, or
- MUS 1104: Music Theory, then --
You’ll need to complete placement tests for these courses before advising and registration for the first quarter can happen.
Also note: If you will not fulfill the Foreign Language Competency requirement before enrolling at SPU, and have previously completed foreign language study in an area you wish to continue at SPU, then you must complete placement tests for these courses before NSA. Advising and registration for the first quarter depends on your completion of these placement tests.
